Mick Schumacher Scores His Second FIA Formula 3 European Championship Race Win
With a good getaway, Mick Schumacher (PREMA Theodore Racing) laid the foundation for his second FIA Formula 3 European Championship race win. The German triumphed at the 3.70 mile Silverstone Circuit ahead of Jüri Vips (Motopark) and Jonathan Aberdein (Motopark), the latter scoring his maiden FIA Formula 3 European Championship podium finish. Daniel Ticktum (Motopark), who started the race as the points’ leader, finished eighth and thus maintained his lead in the drivers’ standings.
Having started from second place on the grid, Mick Schumacher moved up into the lead on the first few metres. On the opening lap, he already built a margin of more than one second from his nearest rival Fabio Scherer (Motopark), who had started the race from pole-position. Next up behind the Swiss were Jüri Vips and Jonathan Aberdein.
At this time, Daniel Ticktum, who had taken the championship lead as the winner of the first race at Silverstone a few hours earlier, was outside the top ten, but was looking for his chance in demanding duels.
At the halfway point, the order at the front of the field was unchanged. Meanwhile, Ticktum worked his way past Ralf Aron (PREMA Theodore Racing) and moved up into the top ten. Out in front, Vips took over second place from his teammate Scherer a few moments later as the Swiss retired with a technical issue. Aberdein moved up into the final podium slot and brought it home behind race winner Schumacher and second-placed Vips. Enaam Ahmed (Hitech Bullfrog GP), Marcus Armstrong (PREMA Theodore Racing) and Guanyu Zhou (PREMA Theodore Racing) finished in fourth to sixth place, followed by Sacha Fenestraz (Carlin). Ticktum, Robert Shvartzman (PREMA Theodore Racing) and Aron rounded out the top ten.
Mick Schumacher on his race win: “The story of my race is told quickly: my start was good, I was able to pull a gap on the first lap and then I tried to maintain it. Around the halfway point, my rivals closed up a bit, but then I pushed more and re-established my initial margin. I am really happy with this victory.”
