The stylised red oil droplet is ATIEL's symbol/logo for the new EELQMS quality management program, which was introduced at the beginning of 2018. It is used as a visible marker on oil cans which shows that the product's manufacturer has signed ATIEL's Letter of Conformance (LoC) and complies with the rules and quality guidelines set out in it. Among other stipulations, the LoC sets ACEA specifications (European Oil Sequences) and the limits associated with them as minimum standards for motor oils. Compliance with these limits is inspected and ensured using regular covert testing, during which samples of products produced by LoC signatories are bought on the open market and subjected to laboratory analysis. A number of motor manufacturers will now only approve oils produced by LoC signatories (including Scania and Volvo Trucks).
