In the 2017 season, the ‘Opel Rallye Junior Team’ will contest the European Rally Championship Junior (FIA ERC Junior) with three factory ADAM R2s. The three Opel rally cars will be driven by 22-year old Briton Chris Ingram, Finland’s Jari Huttunen who is of the same age and 19-year old Italian Tamara Molinaro. The three young guns can demonstrate their skills not only in six events held at international rally venues but also from the 17th to 20th of August within the framework of a German WRC round, the ‘ADAC Deutschland Rallye’. Should the team succeed in winning the championship once again it would secure its third consecutive title.

All three drivers and their co-drivers will contest the events with an Opel ADAM R2. Equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre 16V four-cylinder engine (A16XER) designed and developed in cooperation with race-engine manufacturer Spiess, the ADAM R2 features a variable camshaft adjustment and produces – at 7,750 rpm – a maximum torque of about 190 Nm. The compact rally cars are run with the specially designed motor-racing engine oil  RAVENOL RSS 10W-60. Due to its high viscosity index, good shear stability and a highly efficient additivation, the fully synthetic high-alloy oil based on esters and poly-alpha-olefins is particularly well suited for an extremely racy style of driving – even in the most gruelling conditions. Compared to its production sister, the modified R2 version of the Opel Adam features lighter pistons, special camshafts and valve springs. Also modified for the use in rallying are the flywheel, the intake system in front of the throttle valve, the exhaust system including the manifold, the ECU – and in addition, all the performance relevant mappings also were adapted.

The power transfer is executed via a sequential Sadev five-speed gearbox STC75-14 with limited slip differential – and the high-performance gearbox oil  RAVENOL Racing Gearoil provides the lubrication needed in the demanding rally sport. At the same time, the radiator coolant RAVENOL OTC – Protect C12+ Concentrate makes sure that the engine keeps its cool in every situation. The special hydraulics oil RAVENOL SSF is used for the electro-hydraulic steering of the Opel ADAM R2 – an EHPS Type steering supplied by the manufacturer TRW – and ensures a perfect steering performance even at high speeds. The technical specifications and the lightweight body with integrated safety structure turn the OPEL ADAM R2 into a solid, brisk rally car that truly has got what it takes to raise a lot of dust, with its 16-inch EVO Corse aluminium wheels.
